Florianópolis has beaches, trails, surf, great food and an energy that blends laid-back island life with a buzzing university crowd. But with so many options, where do you even start? In this Florianópolis itinerary guide, we’ve mapped out trips for 3, 5 and 7 days — each one squeezing the best out of the island based on the time you’ve got.
Florianópolis itinerary in 3 days: the island’s essentials
Day 1 — Barra da Lagoa and around
Start with the best: Barra da Lagoa. In the morning, stroll along the canal, grab a coffee and tapioca, and dive into the sea before the crowds roll in. If the swell is good, treat yourself to a surf lesson — Barra da Lagoa has some of the best beginner conditions on the island. In the afternoon, hike the quick trail to Prainha da Barra da Lagoa, just 15 minutes on foot and worth every step. At night, have dinner by the canal — the seafood spots there are genuinely good and easy on the wallet.
Day 2 — Lagoa da Conceição
Lagoa da Conceição deserves a full day. In the morning, rent a SUP or a kayak on the lagoon — it’s an experience you won’t regret. In the afternoon, explore the heart of Lagoa: little bars, craft shops, açaí. If you’ve still got energy, climb Morro da Lagoa — the lookout up there serves a jaw-dropping view. At night, Lagoa delivers a fun, easygoing nightlife scene.
Day 3 — The south of the island: Campeche and Lagoinha do Leste
The south of Floripa hides the wildest beaches. Campeche is a long, beautiful stretch with steady waves. If you’re up for a hike, head to Lagoinha do Leste — a 2-hour walk from Pântano do Sul, but many consider it the most beautiful beach in Brazil. Get there early, pack a snack, plenty of water and sunscreen.
Florianópolis itinerary in 5 days: digging deeper
With 5 days, you can take the 3-day route at a slower pace and add two extra experiences:
Day 4 — The north of the island: Jurerê and Ingleses
Jurerê Internacional is Floripa’s glamorous side — beach clubs, upscale restaurants and the most polished beach on the island. Ingleses, right next door, is more family-friendly with calm waters, great for a swim. If you want a break from surfing, this is the perfect day for it.
Day 5 — Historic center and Santo Antônio de Lisboa
Use your last day to explore the historic center of Florianópolis: the Hercílio Luz Bridge, the Public Market (lunch is a must), the old Customs House and the Cathedral square. In the afternoon, head to Santo Antônio de Lisboa, a neighborhood with Azorean architecture and seafood restaurants right on the shore of the North Bay. It’s the calmest, most historic side of the island.
Florianópolis itinerary in 7 days: the full experience
With a full week, you can do everything above at a much more relaxed pace — and still fit in:
Day 6 — Trails and nature
Florianópolis has a fantastic trail network. The most popular are the Costa da Lagoa trail, Lagoinha do Leste and Morro do Lampião. Pick one that matches your fitness level and set aside a whole day to soak up nature with no rush. Bring water, a snack and proper footwear.
Day 7 — Free day: surf, SUP or just rest
The last day is all yours. If you caught the surf bug, squeeze in one more lesson or a free session. If you’d rather unwind, pick a quiet beach and spend the day in the sun. That’s Floripa’s gift: you’re never short of things to do, but you’re never forced to do anything either.
Where to stay during your Florianópolis itinerary
Your hostel’s location makes a huge difference to the experience. Staying in Barra da Lagoa puts you close to the surf, the trails and just 10 minutes from Lagoa da Conceição — the ideal base for the itinerary above. Book direct on our site and save on platform fees.
General tips for your Florianópolis itinerary
- Rent a car if you’re staying 5+ days — public transport works, but a car gives you far more freedom to reach remote beaches
- Skip the peak summer if you can — high season (December to February) means chaotic traffic and sky-high prices. March, April and October are excellent
- Cash is still a must at some beach kiosks and trailheads
- Use TripAdvisor Florianópolis to check reviews for restaurants and tours
